A friend shared this video with me.  It hit me in many ways and I wanted to share.  You see, in my line of work (Lean Healthcare Consulting), I get to experience some stories like this.  Also, I have to travel a good bit on airplanes and walking through the airport might be similar to walking through a hospital of clinic.  I need to be more aware of the fact that everyone has a story.  If I take the time to recognize that my behaviors, words, and actions have an impact on their story, I can be more effective as a leader.  This 4 minute video is worth the watch.

So, next time you find yourself in a crowded place, be patient and aware.  Ask yourself in an Empathetic tone and not and Apathetic tone, “What’s Their Story?”  Let me know how it works for you.

Thanks for this John. We all tend to be a bit too self absorbed. What would the world be like if we really paid attention outside our selves?

  • So, true Chuck. I hope I can be aware to when I am not paying attention.
